September 3, 2000 ME? I THOUGHT YOU HAD HIM! Army Maj. Tony Coe had to relocate
from Augusta, Ga., to Fort Irwin, Calif., so he and his wife, Karen,
packed up the belongings, the twin boys, the baby girl and the dog into
two vehicles and and set off on the cross-country move. They stopped at
a rest stop in Olive Branch, Miss., for a short while, and then, due to
a miscommunication, each thought the other drove off with the
10-year-old twin Adrian, but neither did, leaving the lad behind. The
parents discovered that he was missing about two hours later, when they
stopped in Palestine, Ark., 75 miles away. PLEASE ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF: Police say that a young
man put a nude photo of himself under the windshield wiper of a woman's
car in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Coventry, R.I., then waited to see her
reaction and followed her when she drove off. THAT'S A LOT OF BANANAS: Elsebeth Christensen died at age 83
in Denmark leaving no living relatives, and so left her entire $60,000
estate to Jimmy, Trunte, Fifi, Trine, Grinni and Gigi, six chimps at the
Copenhagen Zoo, who she had visited during the last weeks of her life. A
judge actually went to the zoo, and read the will in front of the
chimps' cage. CLEAN IT UP, AND NO EXCUSES: A leaky gas pipe caused an
explosion which destroyed a four-story brownstone in Brooklyn killing
Leonard Walit, 72, and his 66-year-old wife, Harriet. One day later,
Brooklyn borough building commissioner Tarek Zeid sent Walit a letter
ordering him to clean up the rubble. TOWER? WHY IS IT SO DARK? Thieves managed to sneak into the Shantou airport in China and steal two thirds of the runway landing lights. The airport had to be shut down for 12 hours while 20 repairmen corrected the problem.
