Hit Counter

May 27, 2001

SHE'S EVEN MADDER NOW: An officer at a Massachusetts courthouse made calls to phone sex lines from work, and charged them to credit cards he stole from prisoners who were being held there.
When he was caught, the 35-year-old man told the cops that he had been using his own credit card to pay for the calls but had to stop because his wife hit the roof when she saw the charges.

WHY ON EARTH WOULD ANYONE TAKE PICTURES? Karlena Cornell, who won the title of Miss Horowhenua in a New Zealand beauty pageant, was surprised to learn that the Internet is featuring nude pictures of her participating in an amateur strip contest she entered while she was on vacation in Brisbane, Australia. "I didn't think for one minute that someone would take my photo for publishing anywhere," she said.
"No one asked me if I minded or even asked my name.'"

ZZZZZZZ! WHAT WAS THAT? Officials installed surveillance cameras in a high-crime neighborhood in Jersey City, N.J., to catch perpetrators in the act. But, when a gunman shot out two of the crime cams, it was vigilant neighbors who notified the police, not the two guys at the monitoring station.
They were sound asleep.

TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND COUNT TO TEN: A woman, whose 17-year-old daughter is captain of the cheerleading squad at Lakewood, Fla., High School, has been in an ongoing dispute with the child's coach, sometimes leaving threatening messages on her answering machine. Finally, the woman could hold back no longer. Police say she engaged the coach in a screaming match, shouting, cursing and poking her in the chest and stomach before hauling off and belting her in the face. She claims she didn't do it, but pleaded guilty anyway.
The judge has ordered her to undergo anger-management counseling.

NOT DEAD YET: A mail truck ran over a small black dog named Sweetie in Park Hills, Mo., and when her owner, Glenda Stevens, felt no heartbeat, she buried the animal in her back yard. A few hours later, she was stunned to see Sweetie digging herself out of her grave.
The dog is being treated for severe injuries.
