June 30, 2002 PAY UP OR I'M DEAD .... I MEAN 'HE'S' DEAD: The parents of a
Lyndeborough, N.H., man missing for a month received emails that their
son had been kidnapped and was being tortured and would be killed unless
they paid a $300,000 ransom. HOW ABOUT 'THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED PERSON OF NOTRE DAME'?
Oddsocks Productions, a theater company in touring England, has removed
the word "hunchback" from the title of the play "The
Hunchback of Notre Dame." There was great fear someone would be
offended. IT WAS KNOWN AS THE 'CHECKING-YOUR-OIL' STATUTE: Lithuania has abolished a law that required women to undergo gynecological examinations to get driver's licenses. OH, SO THAT'S WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS: During an examination for a kidney infection, a 29-year-old Davenport, Iowa, woman discovered she was seven months pregnant. She gave birth three days later. WHERE THE HECK AM I? An eagle named Elsie disappeared from The
British School of Falconry in southern Vermont while on her daily
flight, apparently because strong winds may have blown her so far north
that she is having trouble finding her way back.
