BUT BERGER AND KAHN CERTAINLY LOVED IT: The Marina del Rey, Calif., law firm Berger, Kahn, Shafton, Moss, Figler, Simon & Gladstone has shortened its name to Berger Kahn.
The managing partner said, "Everybody is delighted" with the change. It was not known if "everybody" included Shafton, Moss, Figler, Simon and Gladstone.

ONLY TRYING TO HELP: A man, attempting to burglarize a pub in Newcastle, England, went down the chimney to gain entry but became stuck for the next seven hours.
After being pulled out by firefighters, he told police that he had been trying to rescue a cat. He was arrested.     

PEEK-A-BOO, WE SEE YOU: A Virginia subcontractor put a video camera in his toolbox and placed it under the sink of a woman's bathroom so he could film her when she took a bath.     
She found the camera and called the cops who hid in the house and caught him when he came to remove the equipment.

RUN FREE, BIMBA! Elephants have been causing a lot of accidents in the streets of Bangkok, so the government of Thailand is launching a $40-million effort to buy them from their handlers and release them into the wild.

HEY, A DEAL'S A DEAL: Kansas City, Mo., police said a judge accepted a bribe from a man and then dismissed drug and firearms charges against him.     
When the judge later found out that the man told the cops about it, he plotted to kill him, but was arrested before it could be carried out.
