November 2, 2003 UNDERCOVER OPERATION: It's summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and to combat thievery of people's belongings on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, 1,000 Brazilian police officers - male and female - have donned swimsuits and will "infiltrate among bathers" on the famed beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. YOU SURE YOU'RE NOT A COP? A 60-year-old New York prep school headmaster thought he was talking to teenage girls over the Internet when he got into discussions about sex. But the young ladies on the other end turned out to be grizzled police investigators. MAYBE HE'S A LIBERAL: A shoe thief in Usu, Japan, took
advantage of the custom of removing one's shoes before entering certain
buildings, and stole hundreds of women's shoes from a hospital. In an
odd turn, police found 440 left shoes in his home - no rights. NOT BAD FOR A SCHOOL DAY: Three high-school students - two boys and a 15-year-old girl - left school in Spring Hill, Fla., and went to one of the boys' house. There, the girl had sex with both boys, and then they all went back to school. The boys were both arrested because the girl was underage. STANDING TALL IN A BUICK LACROSSE: General Motors marketed its Buick LaCrosse in Canada, not realizing that "LaCrosse" is a slang term among teenagers in Quebec. It means masturbation. Officials have decided to change the name of the car.
