December 19, 2004 BUT THERE'S `STUPID' AND THEN THERE'S `BOMB STUPID': A
14-year-old Georgia boy brought a pipe bomb to school - not to blow the
place up, but to sell it to pay for Christmas presents. None of his
classmates would buy the device, because they thought he was asking for
too much money - $35. OUR LOSS IS KENTUCKY'S PROBLEM: A 64-year-old man
attempted to care for more than 300 goats on his Corinth, Vt., property
- some of them in his house _-a situation that caused years of tension
between him and his neighbors. COME ON, SHOOT ME! I SAID, SHOOT ME! A man in Orofino, Idaho, donned what he thought was a bulletproof vest and asked his friend to shoot him to test it out. Since they did not know that the vest was designed to protect against grenade fragments, and not bullets, they were both quite surprised at the result: death. OK, LET'S DO THIS QUICK: A man watching a football game on TV
at a tavern in Alker, Wash., wagered that Seattle would beat Dallas, or,
he agreed, he would set fire to the Seahawks jersey and hat he was
wearing. DON'T CALL ME CRAZY: A professor was sentenced to a year in jail for faking a hate crime on a California college campus. She spray-painted her own car with racial slurs before going in to deliver a lecture on racial tolerance. She says she didn't do it. The judge says she suffers from ``severe mental illness.''
